Our CERAMIC ARTISANS
Kemala believes in long-term and mutually beneficial collaborations. we take pride in our respectful and fair working relationships with our artisan partners in Bali for our signature speckled ceramic pieces.
Our ceramics partner is located in the Pejaten Village in Bali. Founded in the late 1990s, a small group of 8 potters equipped with a table wheel and simple raw material processors began handthrowing plates and bowls in order to express their creativity. Fast forward to this day, the organisation has grown impressively to now be able to work with some 50 ceramicsts, mostly local Balinese people in nearby communities. A three-month training program is organised by the organisation to teach new and aspiring potters more about their trade and to help them master their art. In close collaboration, Kemala’s ceramic tableware designs are brought to life by these ceramicists, and the process often involves a long back and forth of sampling and colour glazing trial & error.
