Woodenware

KEMALA takes pride in our respectful and fair working relationships with all our wood artisan partners across Central Java and Bali. Our producers comprise both males (for the shaping of wooden products) and females (for the finishing process). The majority of our woodenwares are made with Perhutani-grade teakwood offcuts from the base of the teak tree. The base/roots is the oldest part of the tree, and therefore the strongest. However, due to its irregular shapes, the furniture industry tend to under-utilise this particular part of the tree. KEMALA makes use of these offcuts in order to reduce waste and produce extremely strong and durable woodenwares. We polish our woodenwares with 100% natural beeswax paste thus ensuring safe direct food contact. To care for your woodenwares, wipe with dry cloth or rinse with gentle dish washing soap. Hand wash only and leave to dry naturally. When the wood loses its shine due to frequent usage, polish with food-grade oil (e.g. beeswax, coconut oil). Dip a clean cloth into the oil, then rub thoroughly onto the wood surface until the oil is well absorbed. You can find our tutorial for polishing wood here.
